Growing up playing in and eating from the garden my mother has been maintaining since my birth, this environment of constant change had been an anchor in life. Curiously, there is a playful irony in trying to escape growing pains by retreating into a space destined to evolve. Unable to know what to make of this and confronted with my deep seeded fear of change, I turned to the person in my life who has always nurtured growth.
Through conversations regarding my mother's gardening practice, we explore subjects of loss, growth and care. Filming her as she "weeds," the process of clearing out overgrowth and invasive plants, I follow her around the garden she has upkept these last twenty-five years. Slowly, I begin to realize, what grounds me here isn't the rosebush I've known since infancy, but the person who planted it outside my window and who will cut it back when it begins to block the sun.
